Carinthia – a state full of cultural riches and art treasures

Your cultural destinations around the Hotel Ronacher

The state of Carinthia is full of art and culture, and offers a wealth of treasures in this area. We have put together a small overview of the most interesting and varied art treasures in Carinthia for you here.

Museum Liaunig

(Travel time approx. 1.5 hours)

The Museum Liaunig is worth a visit just for its remarkable architecture alone. Perfectly integrated in the South Carinthia landscape on the Drava, the museum provides fantastic impressions and views. And although it only opened in 2008, the building is already under monument protection. Inside, the internationally renowned art collect of Herbert Liaunig is shown. You can always visit contemporary art and the historical collections of African glass bead art, the gold of the Akan's, from portrait miniatures from 1600 and glasses from 1500, alongside the sculpture garden and changing exhibitions.

Walker art gallery in castle Ebenau

(Travel time approx. 1 hour)

The close collaboration between the Walker art gallery and Thermenhotel Ronacher has already enabled wonderful exhibitions from two well known Carinthian artists: Kiki Kogelnik and Bruno Gironcoli. The art gallery is based in the Renaissance castle Ebenau in the Rosental valley. Great Austrian and also international art is shown here. However, the focus is on significant Carinthian artists.

Magdalensberg Archaeological Park

(Travel time approx. 1 hour)

The "first capital city of Austria" is located in Magdalensberg, and at the same time also the largest archaeological site of the East Alps. We are particularly delighted that one of the 3 reproductions of the "Youth of Magdalensberg" (the original find is in the Kunsthistorischen Museum [Museum of art history] in Vienna) is located at the entrance to the sauna area [[L:2609]] in the Thermenhotel Ronacher.

Charnel house of Metnitz & Death Dance Museum in Metnitz

(Travel time approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes)

The Charnel house is next to the parish church of Metnitz, and is a small octagonal building with a pyramid roof. The frescoes of a monumental death dance from the 15th Century can be seen in the neighbouring museum.

Friesach Castle

(Travel time approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes)

In the castle town of Friesach a very special project is being worked on. A Medieval castle is emerging, which is being built using exclusively Medieval methods. There are no modern aids on this special building site. Only natural materials such as wood, stone and limestone are being installed. The building material is acquired on site. You have the opportunity to look over the shoulders of the "castle builders".

The Ronacher reception team will be pleased to inform you about further cultural highlights and excursion opportunities – like in the festival city of Salzburg

Send us your no-obligation enquiry now and there is nothing standing in the way of your cultural holiday in Carinthia and an enjoyable stay at the Ronacher!
