Panorama Hikes in Nockberge National Park

Every hiker’s dream is to find the perfect tavern that serves mouthwatering traditional delights. The food in Carinthia’s alpine taverns is still prepared the traditional way: hearty, aromatic, thoroughly enjoyable – and best of all, healthy.
Only fresh, locally sourced produce find its way into the pots and pans of Carinthian tavern kitchens. Meat and cheese are usually delivered by local farmers, and fruit and vegetables are often grown on the tavern’s adjoining farm. The culinary tradition handed down from generation to generation still lives on, offering hikers a rare opportunity to savour something truly special.

Bad Kleinkirchheim circuit trail: Nr. 1
The Sonnenweg (sunny path) starts opposite Hotel Trattlerhof and leads along the Sonnseite path through alpine meadows towards Oswaldbach brook. Cross the brook, and follow the trail, which takes you past Hotel Almrausch, and continue ca. 100 m uphill along the banks of the brook (you can stop to visit the old mill), past the Church of St. Kathrein. Then follow the trail to Gutzingerhof, until you arrive at the evangelical church. After passing this building, cross the Oswaldstraße road, file past the Hubermühle, towards the Catholic Church of St. Ulrich. The path leads behind the church towards the east. Continue along the road ca. 100 m, then turn left and walk uphill towards Pension Sonnblick.Duration: 1. 5 hours
The trail leads behind Pension Sonnblick, which after a short walk will take you onto a road that goes past Stampenhof towards Zirkitzerbach. Then turn left towards Hotel Felsenhof, and through alpine forest and meadow towards Gasthof Drage (guesthouse).
Duration (Pension Sonnnblick to Gasthof Drage): 40 min
After crossing the main road, the trail takes you above the golf course onto the K70 - the downhill piste made famous Olympic gold medallist and local ski legend Franz Klammer – and then the Sportplatz (sports field). From here, continue through alpine meadows, then a short distance along the banks of the Zirkitzerbaches River towards Ottinger farm until you arrive at the Kaiserburgbahn cable car station. The trail then takes you behind Pension Hubertushof towards Hotel Kirchheimerhof, where the road descends towards Hotel Kristall. Then turn left, and follow the trail through the forest until you reach the Kurpark (spa park) and continue along the banks of the Kircheimer brook, until you return to the starting point.
Total duration: ca. 4 – 4.5 hours
Ploninger high altitude trail - St. Oswald
Hike past Thermal Spa Resort Ronacher and the Church of St. Kathrein, and continue along the Sonnenweg (sunny path) until you reach Aigen, then 50m along the main road towards central Bad Kleinkirchheim. Then turn left and uphill, and follow the trail along the Sonnenblumenweg (sunflower path) towards Tischnerhof. Continue to follow the trail along the Aussichtsweg (vista path) until you reach Gasthof Ploninger (guesthouse) and the Märchenwiese (fairytale meadows).
Duration: ca. 1.5 hours
Turn right at the St. Oswald high altitude trail, then continue until you arrive above the quarry. Then turn left downhill, through the forest towards Bichlbauer. Continue along the Wasserweg (water path) towards Bad Kleinkirchheim and onto Oswaldiquelle (Oswald spa), then past the quarry and along the banks of the brook until you arrive at Tschernerwirt. Cross the main road, then follow the Wasserweg path, continuing onto the Sonnenweg path, until you reach Trattnighof. Then turn left, cross the road until you come to St. Kathrein Spa.

St. Oswald circuit trail
St. Oswald circuit trail takes you from Hotel Schneeweiß downhill to Oswaldbach brook. Then take a left and follow the trail leading into the valley, past the “Alte Schmiede” Museum of Crafts and Trades. Alternative 2: Via the “Buschenschenke Aufegger” wine tavern to Würcher Hube guesthouse - ca. 35 min
Alternative 3: Through the forest above the“Buschenschenke Aufegger” wine tavern to Würcher Hube guesthouse – ca. 1 hr 15 min
On arriving at the village of Oberkirchleitn, walk past the Brunnach cable car station towards Café Sportalm. Then follow the main road and continue along the trail through the forest until you reach Grubenbauerhof farm. From here walk downhill along the paved road until you arrive at the starting point. Duration: ca. 50 min
